La Gomera Day Trip: Ferry, Forests & Whales

How to visit La Gomera from Tenerife in one day — ferry routes, Garajonay forest, Valle Gran Rey and whale watching.

8 min read

Getting there from Tenerife

Ferries from Los Cristianos reach San Sebastián de La Gomera in about 50 minutes. Fred Olsen runs multiple daily crossings. Book a combined ferry and transfer ticket to avoid queues on arrival. Morning departures maximise your time on the island.

Garajonay National Park

This UNESCO World Heritage laurel forest is the main reason to visit — a misty, prehistoric woodland that feels like another era. Guided tours include hotel pickup in Tenerife, ferry tickets and a local guide who explains the park's unique ecosystem and the whistled language of Gomera.

Valle Gran Rey & whales

The valley of the great king is a dramatic gorge with terraced farmland and a black-sand beach. Boat trips from the port spot pilot whales and often pass the spectacular Los Órganos sea cliffs. A longer day allows for both the forest and the coast.
